New Header Idea
August 3, 2011 I have been wanting to do a redesign of the site to make it cleaner and more user-friendly. I started laying out a new header, but discovered that the current Squarespace software wouldn't be able to support it. That Squarespace update can't come soon enough...

Drawings Dump
April 16, 2011 I have uploaded a ton of pages from my sketchbook. Check them out on the Drawings page. There are some Don't Let The Balls Touch ideas, gesture drawings, and drawings of things from the Natural History Museum.
Episode 02 - Pixel Portrait
April 15, 2011

This week I take some time to share a recent drawing. You can view the finished work in my Drawings Gallery.
DLBT
March 19, 2011 Oh hi there.
I have been starting work on Don't Let the Balls Touch.

The plan is to write the game in its own engine from scratch - which I expect to take a good amount of time considering I have a full-time job. I am doing a lot of prototyping in Flash before I write the engine so I can blast through the game once I'm ready.
Also, I have finally finished moving to West LA and setting up my computer. Tons of sketchbook scans have been added to the Drawings page.
Drawing: Week 1
January 9, 2011 This week I started doing some head studies using Drawing the Head and Hands by Andrew Loomis. I still have much room for improvement, but I was able to see progress within just a few days. To wrap up the week I have colored a handful of drawings.
You can always see the most recent on the Drawings page.
Taco Toucher
January 9, 2011 A little progress on my game. This time I have been playing around with some gameplay that is closer to what I ultimately want. In this iteration, you touch a taco to bounce upward - combo your taco touching to chain yourself into the sky:
Time Teleportation
January 2, 2011 I was working on a game framework when I fell into this mechanic. I can't immediately imagine how this would flesh out into a more playable prototype, but it is neat enough for me to want to share.
I hope this begins a trend of me doing quick video captures to share what I am working on. I composited sound and video using Windows Movie Maker, which killed the Image quality - if you have a good free alternative, please let me know.
Journey Trailer
December 13, 2010 I currently work at thatgamecompany as a game designer on the game Journey. We still have a good amount of work to go, but we have a trailer to tease you with.
BS Paint
October 19, 2010 Matt Nava has recently been making considerable improvements in his Java-based painting program called Navashop. In a fit of jealousy, I challenged his his honor in an intense after-hours competition. He was to spend the evening improving Novashop while I created a rival application from the ground up. Co-worker Michael Peddicord was up to the challenge and attempted his own from-scratch painting program, P Draw.
Sadly, Navashop was clearly the best application at the end of the night - but BS Paint is not going away any time soon.
Behold, BS Paint!
I have long been a fan of (pre-Win7) MS Paint and have wanted to create my own for a while. Although it's not quite there, it is a really solid first step. I am really excited for this project (like all my others), and cannot wait for the functionality to start piling on!
Its current feature set:
- Black brush with left mouse button
- White brush with right mouse button
- Change brush size with mouse wheel
- Save bitmap with S key
- Open bitmap with O key
I am also doing some stuff behind the scenes to prepare the application for serious growth. Things are very promising.
(BS Paint requires the .NET framework)
